People keep asking what’s in my truck, on my desk, and in my bag — so here’s the actual list.
None of this is sponsored. I bought it all, I use it all, and I link the Amazon pages so you can grab them at the same price I did.

Heads up: Amazon links below are affiliate. Same cost to you. Tiny kickback to me that helps keep the free tools actually free. Full disclosure at the bottom.
1. The Office Side
Rocketbook Fusion Reusable Notebook I switched to a Rocketbook for job site notes about two years ago and never went back. Write with a Pilot FriXion pen, snap a photo with the app, auto-sorts to your Google Drive folder. Wipe the page with a damp cloth, reuse forever.
Blue Yeti USB Microphone If you’re recording client update videos, doing podcast interviews, or posting IG reels, the built-in laptop mic sounds like you’re yelling into a trash can. Blue Yeti is plug-and-play and triples your audio quality for ~$100.
Laptop Riser + External Keyboard One of the fastest posture fixes if you’re spending 2+ hours a day at a laptop doing bids. Raises the screen to eye level, saves your neck, and if you’re already paying $300K-$500K of insurance premiums on your crew, spending $40 on your own back is a no-brainer.
2. The Truck Side
Milwaukee Packout System If your tools still live in a Home Depot orange bucket, upgrade now. The Milwaukee Packout system stacks, locks together, and the drawer units are absurdly tough. I run one with everything I need for site walks — tape, laser, level, Sharpies, safety vest, extra batteries.
Bosch GLM 165-40 Laser Measure If you’re still running a tape measure for bid walks on a 3,000sf whole-home, you’re losing 20 minutes per walk and introducing errors. Bosch laser measures to 165ft, accurate to 1/16″, Bluetooth-syncs to PLAN apps.
Streamlight Sidewinder Headlamp Every site has that one day where you’re under a sink or in an attic at dusk and a phone flashlight isn’t cutting it. Headlamp keeps both hands free. Small upgrade, giant quality-of-life improvement.
3. The Brain Side
Day Designer Planner I know — analog planner in 2026. But there’s something about pen-on-paper scheduling for blocking your week into estimating / admin / site / family that nothing digital has matched for me. The Day Designer layout is opinionated in a good way.
“Profit First” by Mike Michalowicz If you’ve never read this, read it this month. It’s the book that broke me out of the “revenue = profit” trap every contractor falls into. Changed how I bank, how I pay myself, and how I price.
“Never Split the Difference” by Chris Voss The single best book I’ve read on client conversations — especially change orders and pricing objections. Former FBI hostage negotiator teaching you how to hold your number without being a jerk. Required reading.

The Digital Upgrades (Not on Amazon)
Amazon’s great for the physical stuff, but the tools that have actually moved my business the most aren’t on Amazon — they’re the spreadsheets and templates I built over 20 years in the field.
If you like the way I think about pricing, change orders, and ops — the full library lives here:
Every tool is built from real jobs, tested on real contractors, and priced so it pays for itself on the first use.
Disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Amazon links in this post are affiliate links — same price to you, tiny kickback to me that keeps the free tools (like the Burdened Labor Calculator) actually free. Opinions are my own. I only recommend things I actually own and use.
